Light a candle in memory of George Floyd….
Derek Chauvin was sentenced today to serve 22-1/2 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd. According to Reuters, “Chauvin's sentence was one of the longest given a former police officer for using unlawful deadly force in the United States.”
George Floyd and others who suffered death at the hands of errant police must not be forgotten. We must tackle the pivotal problem of racial inequality in America.
According to the Pew Research Center, “Majorities of both black and white Americans say black people are treated less fairly than whites in dealing with the police and by the criminal justice system as a whole. In a 2019 Center survey, 84% of black adults said that, in dealing with police, blacks are generally treated less fairly than whites; 63% of whites said the same. Similarly, 87% of blacks and 61% of whites said the U.S. criminal justice system treats black people less fairly.”1
How to make a difference?
We do need to call out racism and bigotry, in the workplace, through social media or wherever you see it.
