2 Years into the Invasion of Ukraine
After Putin’s senseless invasion of Ukraine, we have witnessed two years of courageous resistance by the Ukrainian people. From Chechnya to Georgia, to Syria, and now Ukraine, the Russia of Vladimir Putin has been involved in a string of wars since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
On this day, marking two years of Russia’s “Special Operation” Ukraine still needs our support.
I was at a party on February 18 hosted by singer songwriter and musician Marcie Boyd. As I heard her perform her song and musical composition “WAIT TIL NIGHT BEGINS TO FALL”I knew this had to be recorded and shared to inspire us all not to give up on Ukraine. Marcie graciously agreed to have me record her singing her song and musical composition.

“WAIT TIL NIGHT BEGINS TO FALL
Antonina Dvoryanets was born in 1952 in Chernobyl. She was a Hydraulic Engineer.
Antonina lived and worked in Chernobyl and wasthere in ‘86 when the disaster happened. She and her husband stayed behind as liquidators to clean up the mess. The rest of the family moved to Kyiv. Eventually Antonina and her husband did too. When the protests started in 2013 she and her husband started going to Independence Square every day. She eventually joined the occupation full-time. On Feb. 18, 2014 she was killed, the first woman of the “Heavenly Hundred” (actually 108) Ukrainian martyrs of 2013-14.
After her death, her two-year-old granddaughter said “Look up at the stars, Mama. Grandma’s up there. She flew up to the sky on a rocket.” In this song I imagine the granddaughter today, remembering her grandmother and making a connection between what happened in 2014 and what’s happening now.
