Governor Gavin Newsom in his address today to all Californians warned that democracy is under assault.
He emphatically criticized President Trump's deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles as an unnecessary act of escalation. Newsom decried Trump’s authoritarian directives and lambasted both Trump and his federal administration for disguising those orders as legitimate law enforcement actions.
Newsom highlighted recent federal raids in Latino neighborhoods and the unlawful militarization of Los Angeles, calling it a moment of national reckoning.
“Trump is pulling a military drag net all across Los Angeles, Well beyond his stated intent to just go after violent and serious criminals. His agents are arresting dishwashers, gardeners, day laborers and seamstresses. That's just weakness. Weakness masquerading as strength. Donald Trump's government isn't protecting our communities They're traumatizing our communities and that seems to be the entire point. California will keep fighting. We'll keep fighting on behalf of our people all of our people including in the courts.”
