To Confuse and Mislead-The Big Beautiful Bill
--ongoing efforts by the Trump Administration and the Republican Congress
Deep Concern Over Misinformation and Deceit in the “One Big Beautiful Bill”
I’ve been hearing from many people expressing serious frustration, dismay, and anger—not just over misinformation, but over the outright deceit surrounding the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill, which was just passed by both houses of Congress and signed into law by Donald Trump.
You are not alone in feeling alarmed by the weaponization of misinformation in politics—especially when it’s used to divide, distract, and mislead the public. What we’re seeing now is not just political spin—it’s a deliberate, coordinated campaign to distort reality.
Trump and far too many members of Congress and his administration are so complicit in this. It's harmful when they keep repeating lies even when the truth is clear.
Even more disturbing is how this deception is amplified by media echo chambers and algorithm-driven social media, giving lies oxygen while drowning out facts. It’s not just unethical—it’s malicious.
The Reality Behind the Bill
Here’s a summary of nonpartisan research that exposes the truth behind the bill’s major claims:
❌ Claim: Medicaid, SNAP, and Medicare were protected
SNAP (Food Assistance):
The bill includes the largest cut in SNAP history: approximately $300 billion over 10 years
SNAP supports 8 million seniors. These cuts could make hunger, depression, and long-term health problems worse for older adults.
(Sources: Washington Post, CBPP, NBCDFW)
Medicaid:
About $900 billion in cuts will happen over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office
Key parts of the bill include:
Work requirements (80 hours/month for adults 19–64). More than 5 million people could lose eligibility.
Eligibility restrictions will require frequent income verification, and higher out-of-pocket costs will be the norm.
Block grant–style funding caps that will limit federal support regardless of local need.
Service restrictions on gender-affirming care and Planned Parenthood coverage.
❌ Claim: The bill reduces the federal deficit
Reality: It increases the deficit significantly.
Despite the White House claiming a "$2 trillion deficit reduction," the facts tell a different story.
Independent analyses by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB), and the Penn Wharton Budget Model estimated the bill would increase the deficit by $1.7 to $3.8 trillion over a decade, primarily due to tax cut extensions (FactCheck.org, 2025; The New York Times, 2025).
❌ Claim: The bill eliminates federal taxes on Social Security benefits
Reality: That’s a distortion of the truth.
The Social Security Administration sent an email stating the bill “eliminates federal income taxes” on benefits for most recipients
But that’s not accurate—the bill only offers a temporary deduction of:
$6,000 for individuals
$12,000 for married couples
These deductions phase out at modest income levels, and do not fully eliminate taxation
