I have not been a super fan of country music. And last night I gave it another chance. Miko Marks and the Resurrectors opened the 38th season of the Mendocino Music Festival on Saturday, July 14, with a stunning performance and the audience did not feel like going home !!! Stomping and clapping the audience would not leave until they heard her just once more.
.
It has been a rough time here in America, with divisions and political rhetoric off the charts. We need healing and a new perspective and fortitude. Miko puts out what is real…overcoming challenges, resiliency and she is not just traditional “Country Music”! She brings it to another level.
This mesmerizing, rocking, deep soulful performance was balm for the soul! I am sure if the big tent were not tied down Miko and her band the Resurrectors would have raised the roof! Her honesty, storytelling, pure spirit and gumption and amazing soaring voice touched us all.
Miko finally broke through the glass ceiling in Nashville, and I hope that the Mendocino Music Festival brings her back again next year!
Justin Phipps, Jansen Verplank and the rest of the Resurrectors band were the perfect storm for magic last night. The long exhilarating harmonica solo by Justin had everyone in awe! What a synchronicity between the energy on stage and the audience, You could not help but feel the hope to do “Good Trouble,” to rise up for peace and goodness-- what a gift!
Miko’s story is not just inspirational. You can feel the commitment and the heartbreak and regrouping to live her truth.
Miko Marks is a pioneer and her music is her roadmap and an offering to us as we embark on another journey that just starts each new day.
I am now a big fan!
