This is why I do not subscribe to CABLE TV
Why Fox News Is Hard to "Get Off" Cable?
I did some research—
Fox News doesn't survive on ratings alone. It makes huge revenue from cable subscriber fees, even from people who never watch it.
Cable bundle model: Fox News is included in most basic cable or satellite packages.
Per-subscriber fees: Fox charges cable companies ~$2/month for every household that gets it.
This adds up to $1.6+ billion per year—even if you never turn it on.
What You Can Do
Call or Write Your Cable Provider AND Tell them:
You don’t want Fox News in your bundle.
You want an “a la carte” option (pick-and-choose channels).
You want to opt out of funding channels spreading misinformation.
This won’t immediately drop Fox, but enough pressure may influence long-term negotiations.
Just Ditch Cable
Cancel your cable subscription altogether.
Switch to streaming platforms that don’t include Fox News by default.
Cable subscriptions have declined by millions in the last decade. This trend weakens Fox’s funding base.
Join or Support Campaigns
There are national campaigns aimed at this exact goal:
#UnFoxMyCableBox (by Media Matters for America):
Pushes for transparency and reform in cable billing.CheckMyAds.org:
Tracks advertisers and platforms that support disinformation networks, including Fox.
These groups provide tools to:
Pressure advertisers.
Push local governments and cable boards.
Raise public awareness.
Pressure Local Franchising Authorities
Local governments often oversee cable franchises. You can:
Attend city council or public utility meetings.
Demand renegotiation of contracts that require bundling Fox News.
In some cities, officials have asked cable providers to stop forcing Fox into basic packages.
Educate Others About the Cable Fee Model
Many people don’t realize they’re funding Fox.
Sharing this info can:
Start drive petitions.
Fuel consumer activism.
Build momentum for legislative or regulatory reform.
Push for Media Regulation Reform
Long-term change may require:
FCC regulation of channel bundling and transparency.
Congressional inquiries into cable pricing and disinformation.
While politically challenging (especially with GOP opposition), public demand can shape policy proposals. Start now and DON’T GIVE UP!
